White Borders Around Pictures

This is our blogging friend Dipta who lives in Indonesia. He posts interesting pictures and says today's post is about the holiday season Eid Mubarak. We borrowed Dipta's simple table and pictures. He uses a defined width and height combined with white borders around the pictures to create visual white space.

Here's the copy-and-paste code.

Put the code in your Blog or Web page. It will look something like this.

Pictures:
images/tnsholat1.jpg
images/tnsholat2.jpg
images/tnsholat3.jpg

  1. Change the name of the pictures.
  2. Change the TABLE bordercolor="#ACCAE1" (light-blue) to match your picture.
  3. Adjust the TABLE width="320" and height="150" to fit your pictures.
  4. The border: 3px solid #FFFFFF is a 3 pixel solid white (#FFFFFF) border.

For more borders see Boxes and Borders

"One hundred dollars is the universalizing point for any technology"
brykmantra

Cindy says Happy Thanksgiving with the glow filter, while Shirl gives us a sneak peek of her day that includes a shot of Vodka. PunkClown tells us about new software (he's in Australia so it's already tomorrow there).

Dave points to this English-to-12-year-old-translator that lets us enter One hundred dollars is the universalizing point for any technology and the translator spits out ONE HUNDRED DOLARS IS DA UNIEVRSALIZNG POINT FOR ANY TECHNOLOGY. Dave's example worked better.

Jeneane is on a roll.

That Turkey in the kitchen needs to be stuffed now...

It smells good. Are you at Mom's house today? We lost Mom on the eleventh day of the eleventh month many years ago and then lost Dad on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month two years ago. Can you snap a picture of your Mom or Dad today? Some of us like pictures of parents even more than cats or dogs.

We are enjoying the articles that Misbehaving finds. Check out the comments. And just one more that we found the link to today, LunchMoney, on the eleventh day of the eleventh hour of the eleventh month. Steve wrote this tribute on 11/11/2003 to honor Cleveland Jackson.

Leslie border: thin ridge #636; So I went over to lift an image for an icon but got sidetracked. This face tells a story that the blog doesn't tell. It's Leslie.

The image was reduced to a fast-loading .gif format. In Adobe every pixel speaks. Using the eye dropper tool to sample the colors we find the hexadecimal color equivalents.

#CC6666
#663366
#663300
#993333
#FF9966

Thick and Thin

Border Styles: Groove, Ridge, and Inset
Size Thick

Now we can border the image with the sampled colors.

Leslie border: thick groove #C66; Leslie border: thick ridge #636; Leslie border: thick inset #963;

The border style code looks like this.

Border Styles: Groove, Ridge, and Inset
Size Thin

Leslie border: thin groove #C66; Leslie border: thin ridge #636; Leslie border: thin inset #963;

The border style code looks like this.

Okay, now I'll go reduce her to an icon. Leslie, if I had a face like an angel it would be splattered all over this place. You could be a Christmas card, sell your own Cafe press Christmas ornaments (hey, Christmas ornaments!).

Dr. Stu Savory Micro soft-headed : Instead of flaming MS today I'm gonna show you a neat freebie. I just hope it works in your language-version of Word, and not just in German. Let me know if it works in your language too, please. Open a new, empty Word-document and type in : = rand (200,99) then press "enter" and wait about 3 seconds .

Try it on your PC. It worked in our English-version of Word. Did it work at your place?

A Happy Birthday

Tomorrow is my birthday, not one that is much reason for celebration but daughter Lanissa is planning a party.

What do I want? World peace. But more realistically I would like to see Annie (that's Annie in the red dress). We look alike with "golden hair and blue eyes" as she describes us. She likes pillow parties and dress-up clothes. Seeing the Taterbug would really light up my life. He was my son until age seven and is over six feet tall now.

The new baby has aqua eyes and a funny face she hasn't grown into yet. I would like to see her.

It's rumored that Annie, Taterbug, and the baby will be at the party. I guess birthdays can be a good thing. I hope so.

Is the http://www Required in a Link?

The best practice is to use the most complete form of the URL: http://www.mandarindesign.com/blogger.html

Include the protocol http:// and the full server name www.mandarindesign.com/blogger.html.

Why?

  • If you leave the www out the browser may have to do a retry and add the www for you.
  • Two otherwise identical addresses can point to two different servers, one that uses the www and one that doesn't.
  • Some addresses will not work without the www.

Some addresses do not contain a www. Even if the full URL contains the www it will nearly always work if you forget to include the www in a link. The browser just might have to do a little extra work for you.

Have a great Monday.

Colorizing Images

We found this picture of baby Phoebe at 2Flower who used Lynn's Colorizing Black and White Images tutorial to colorize part of the image.

" I tried this tutorial out tonight on a picture of my niece Phoebe. My brother took the picture, and I just loved it. I decided to try colorization on it, and I thought it turned out really cute.

I used PSP 7 instead of Photoshop, but the tutorial still made sense to me. "

What a perfect use for adding color to a black and white image.

The technology job is secure but Rob's company is merging with another and there's talk of severence packages and well, we think it's time to cash in some frequent flyer miles and hotel points. We'll be at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort for a week.

The weather report is 86 degrees today. Elvis loved Hawaii like we do. Yes, Rob works in Hawaii but not Maui so this will not feel like a work trip.
