...we don't really have
any experts...
We don't really have any experts. HTML and CSS are the main focus and Michelle is a professional developer, but we rely on friends and fiddling a little with this and that in various browsers. Most of the day job is spent on the other duties as required. There's a Computerworld Article for the fifteen minutes of fame, or fifteen minutes of total chaos. It's outdated now but there is a photo. Non-ProfitWe have one reason for remaining non-profit. Mandarin is intended to be a playground for us and for those who want to customize Blogs and Web sites without having to read a book, or to buy a book. We think education and entertainment should be free and readily accessible to anyone who wants to learn. What did you do before?Labor Market Analyst (Economic)I began in Statistics and worked as a Labor Market Analyst. The work included researching occupational data, and forecasting the supply and demand of occupations by industry, and developing and publishing labor force and unemployment rate estimates. Labor Market Analyst's write monthly newsletters, bulletins, press releases and other narrative and graphic publications for use by the media, businesses, and the general public. Information Technology was still called Data Processing when work began in the IT world.Platforms: IBM Mainframe, VM, DEC VAX, Datapoint, and PC. Languages: Xbase, dBase III and IV, COBOL, Basic, SAS, NCL, DCL, RMS Chain, REXX, VB, FoxPro, PL1, JAVA, JavaScript, PHP, HTML, CSS, MySQl, ColdFusion, REXX, and more. Recognition for significant improvement in government processes was demonstrated in the form of three cash Merit Awards from the Governor of the State of California, all in one year. After that I gave up suggesting and began implementing improvements from behind the curtain using smoke and mirrors. Early IT work included implementation and coordination of automation projects, preparation of multi-million dollar Feasibility Study Reports, Budget Change Proposals, and procurement documents and all of the boring stuff one must do to make it to the Associate Programmer Analyst level for the State of California. After that it's gravy. The ride up is fast and furious. What did you do before?Grand JurorDuring the Y2K period I served a one-year term as a Grand Juror for Yolo County, California. All Grand Jury work and investigations are confidential. The hours are long, and evening meetings on five committees are demanding. The final process was working on the Editing Committee that publishes the annual Grand Jury Report that is disseminated to the public as an insert in local newspapers. The successes while serving as a Grand Juror are the most important contributions to the community and most rewarding work, second only to Mandarin. |
