We can't answer that question since we don't know if Dave Winer is an asshole, however, since he seems to be fair game and able to take the cutting remarks he must be intelligent and high enough on the food chain to not be bothered. If he was really an asshole then everyone would ignore him like we do the other assholes. No complain, no explain. A gnat not worth our time.

Obviously we don't know if Dave Winer is an asshole. We don't even know if he looks like an asshole. And Dave Winer doesn't have a clue who Mandarin is so he wouldn't care...wait, only an asshole wouldn't care what we say. He cares. We love you Dave. Isn't this a silly game we play and perpetuate here in blogdom.

Dave Winer is a software developer and web writer. Hmm, I am too. His products run on the Web where everyone can see them. Mine are secure government applications so no show-and-tell. We are in a generation that produced more than its share of assholes. But, we also come from a sharing generation that includes a lot of open source developers. We don't patent or copyright our work, especially those of us, like Dave Winer, who lives in California.

Actually, the more I read about Dave Winer the more I wonder why folks call him an asshole. It's a difficult place to navigate here and here and...well, he lost me. I have no idea which page is intended to be the official Weblog for Dave Winer.
